1st time in Casselman Ontario CanadaFeb 10, 2012 Before I embark on my Cross County driving trip (Outlined in my Play List description), we decided to go to Casselman Ontario (farm land) and work to earn our stay and keep. The owner of the property had an amazing in-ground swimming pool. We kept going to the swimming pool, fool around, make BBQ's and just have some fun. Then we took some nice pictures; you can see the slide show near the end of the video

Key Points • Farmland is an essential resource for agricultural production and a source of wealth for farmland owners. • Many factors impact farmland values, but ultimately it's a matter of supply and demand. • The average value of farmland in Canada increased by 7.4% during the first six months of 2011, following gains of 3% and 2.1% in the previous two six-month periods. • Farmland values remained stable or increased in all provinces. Saskatchewan (+11.6%) and Ontario (+6.6%) saw the largest increases. • The prospects for farmland values in Canada are good -- growth in developing countries and overall world population can result in an increased demand for food products. However, there are many risks that could negatively affect the demand for farmland. • Producers need to decide their growth strategy for themselves, regardless of farmland values.

But to skirt government regulations, it claimed it wanted to grow potatoes. Didn't know about this? Well, neither did most residents in Southern Ontario as the corporation involved -- Highland Companies (US hedgefund Baupost operating in Canada as Highland Companies) -- has been buying up large amounts of agricultural land under the pretense of agricultural use (potatoes) only to turn around and declare it wishes to open the second largest open pit mine in North America (not potatoes). Now that the true intentions of Highland Companies has been revealed, it's time for defenders of Canada's land and waters to rise up and stop this huge, environmentally destructive project and stand up to deceptive corporations. According to the Council of Canadians' assessment of the issue, "The Highlands company started buying farmland in Melancthon several years ago saying they wanted to become the province's largest potato growing operation -- which made sense to local farmers as the area is well known for its particularly high quality soil and micro-climate. After many local farmers had sold their farms -- some of which had been in the family for generations -- the real motives of the company became apparent.
